Mitch McConnell

Mitch McConnell

I won’t give the benefit of a backlink to the Huffington Post to advance their page rank, but wish to respond to several comments made on their blog in reference to Senator Mitch McConnell. As a fellow Kentuckian, as well as an American, I feel qualified to speak.

In his post “Mitch McConnell Challenges Obama With Bold Speech” on 11/4/2010, Charles Babington made mention of the following points:

* after President Barack Obama invited congressional Republicans to post-election talks to work together on major issues, the Senate’s GOP leader had a blunt message: His party’s main goal is denying Obama re-election.

Yes, Charles he did say that and not without good reason.

President Obama never asked McConnell or other major Republican players over to the White House in the past two years to discuss anything. Republicans were told “they could go along with his plans if they chose to, and didn’t mind riding in the back of the bus,” I believe he said.

I’m not even going to qualify with a repremand the repugnant nature of that overt racist slur by our president but there is little doubt as to the connotation intended. Had that same statement been uttered by a white president to a senator of color there would have been hell to pay. It was deeply offensive to all conservatives to be referenced with that comeuppance jeer.

Now all of a sudden, out of the blue, he talks in a conciliatory tone that he is “open to discussing things in a bipartisan way and finding common ground,” as he put it. If past performance is an predictor of future behavior, I believe we all know how much compromise Obama intends to mete out over the issues conservatives wish to address.

None, nada, zip would be a good guess.

McConnell spoke for conservatives as a whole in his statement in that unless Obama allows the repeal of his most egregious programs, his removal from office is the only alternative to get them removed. Even moderately intelligent Americans don’t see Obama making those concessions, so what other choice do we have?

* The Senate Republican leader’s confrontational tone was in sharp contrast to the posture Obama took Wednesday in the face of a new GOP-controlled House and Republican gains in the Senate.

Typical liberal response to any conservative position that differs from their own: if you don’t agree with us every inch of the way, you are being “confrontational” or “obstructive.” I think more than anything else McConnell simply used candor to present the conservative position in a realistic way.

“If the Senate and the President won’t sign off on the legislation we forward to them, we have no choice but push for a change of the Senate and the president to accomplish our goals.”

How much different is that than the Democrat’s position whenever they run for offices? None is the correct answer here.

* “If the administration wants cooperation, it will have to begin to move in our direction,” McConnell said.

And he spelled out a strategy for undermining Obama’s health care law, calling for repeated votes to repeal the measure.

“But we can’t expect the president to sign it,” he said. “So we’ll also have to work, in the House, on denying funds for implementation, and, in the Senate, on votes against its most egregious provisions.”

This is just the way the government is supposed to work, guys. If unpopular laws need revision or repeal, it is the job of the congressional majority to put together a proposal to do just that. If the Senate or president veto the offer, it is them who are acting as the obstructionists then.

The only acceptable solution for some issues, like health care reform, is its repeal. The current Senate and president are most likely going to try to stop or stall that. The only way to correct that is to change the Senate and the president at the polls. It’s just the way it works, regardless of which side is doing it.

* Reid, D-Nev., said that in light of the election, “Republicans must take the responsibility to solve the problems of ordinary Americans,” although he added, “people expect us to work together.”

Pretty strong words from the man who ignored his contemporaries for the last two years. But just to put his mind at ease, conservatives are looking to give the majority of Americans what they want and demand. That can be done in a bipartisan way or at the exclusion of the left – that choice is up to the left.

RINO’s who are not helping advance the conservative position will be dealt with in 2012, 2014 and 2016. If they are obstructing conservative progress they have to go – and they will. The people elected what they thought was conservative majority to the House and they should have it.

* “I think the most interesting thing to watch in the next Congress is how many Democrats start voting with us,” McConnell said.

“Every one of the 23 Democrats up [for re-election] in the next cycle has a clear understanding of what happened Tuesday,” he said. “I think we have major opportunities for bipartisan coalitions to support what we want to do.”

“As I see it, the White House has a choice: they can change course, or they can double down on a vision of government that the American people have roundly rejected. If they choose the former, they’ll find a partner in Republicans. If they don’t, we will have more disagreements ahead.”

I don’t see anything confrontational or hostile in those comments from McConnell. He simply laid out the new reality for Democrats to deal with looking forward. No need beating around the bush, there is a new sheriff in town – a conservative one.

Maybe It’s Just Me, But Whatever Happened to OpSec?

Barack ObamaIt’s probably no secret to anyone who reads this blog that there is no love lost between me and President Obama. I question his character, his agenda and his motives.

But he is, nonetheless, the President of the United States and I wouldn’t want to see anything happen to him to further destabilize the country. Especially abroad where the potential to drag the US into another mess could result. (ie. Archduke Ferdinand and the start of WWI.)

I am hoping against hope that the agendas of his visit are falsely being reported by our Secret Service to cloud any opportunities for would-be assassins to plan an attack. If what we are seeing in the media is all true, I can’t help but flash back to Dealy Plaza only 47 years ago this month.

It’s one thing for the Obama Administration to think their main man is 10′ tall, but expanding that to include bullet-proof is a bit of a stretch, even for King Barry. It’s obvious to most of us here in America that he ain’t in his right mind most days and we have a moral obligation to look after those of us who are mentally challenged.

All the warships in the US Navy are not going to stop the one-man show of a suicide extremist with a rifle and a well-placed head shot or a jihadist with a SAM to Marine One. But our security team would have a lot easier task in front of them if there was much more secrecy in play here.

When Bush went to Iraq, he just kinda showed up without much fanfare; effectively denying insurgents time to plan an attack. Why are we telegraphing the Obama itinerary in such detail to possible opportunists? It’s beyond me.

Like I said, I have little use for Obama and would not be particularly upset if he got offed. (Aside from the fact it would leave us stuck with Joe-Joe for two years.) But as an old soldier myself, it would bother me if poor decisions and bad judgment set the stage for our next military involvement in a foreign land and more American lives lost that could have been avoided by prudence.

Congratulation to Conservative Winners, Warning to RINO’s and the Liberal Left: The Clean-Up Begins Today

after party clean-up

The Clean-Up Begins

Well, here we are: the morning after the night before once again. I suppose the next several days will tell the tale of what has transpired and what we can really expect with the death of campaign rhetoric.

Have we taken the national checkbook out of the hands of the spoiled, irresponsible children who stole it from their mother’s purse four years ago and bankrupted the country? Or have we simply replaced old faces with new, fresh ones to suck out the last few remaining drops of our blood?

Many would expect moods to be ecstatic and exuberant this morning after a conservative victory in the House of Representatives and a sound wake-up call in the Senate to leftist socialists who reigned there. But they are not.

I believe that the general mood across the land this morning is that of a street fighter who is still standing after the fray but worse for the wear nonetheless. No one wins a fist fight; just one side gets beat up worse than the other.

And the American people are still standing but near beat to death. There is not much to celebrate this morning other than we survived another night in the ring and are here to look forward into the uncertain future before us with the “thousand-yard stare.”

While the President and his groupies try to convince us that “the recession is over,” reality is not bearing that out. All things being equal and fairly assessed, we have not quite reached the bottom of it yet.

Any significant signs of recovery are far off in the distance; possibly as far out as 2014 or beyond. That being the case, there is not much inspiration to put on party hats and blow noise makers over yesterday’s election returns.

We have been “hoped” until it hurts and “changed” until we’re choked. The general mood of the country this morning is:

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, we hear what you’re sayin’, but we’re watchin’ what you’re doing. If you fail to make that popping sound, the one your head makes when extracted from your backside, you too, will be a former Senator or Representative at the first opportunity.”

Last night’s winners had better understand that with sober clarity; whether newbies or returned incumbents. The American people are sick and tired of going around and around in circles with you people. There is no play left in us.

Not a single member of Congress has one iota of job security this morning and those that think they do are too ignorant to hold office or are complete fools. This applies to the left, right and in-betweeners equally.

We, collectively as a nation, are no longer going to foot the bill for your insanity. We are weary of being condescended to and thought stupid. We are not.

The only reason we have tolerated this arrogance this long is because we were so distracted making more money to give to Congress to throw down ever increasing numbers of new black holes. No more, folks, we’re done with it.

Let your Marxist keepers; Soros, Gates, Buffet and the global elitists et al, take a vow of poverty and donate all their wealth to these sinkholes if they want it all so badly. I am holding my breath until that happens – NOT.

* The Federal Reserve is nothing but an organized crime syndicate to launder tax money into the coffers of wealthy socialist globalists. It needs to be abolished now, not tabled for future discussion that never happens. It needs to go now; today.

* No more bailouts to any private sector entities: this is just another laundering mechanism to separate the taxpayer from their money and put it into the pockets of the globalists and labor union bosses to be used against us in the future by under-the-table election contributions. It is theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception.

* Kill the health care reform bill dead in it’s tracks before it inflicts any more damage onto our broken economy. It was foisted upon us against our majority will by the socialists seeking to capture more permanent votes looked-in by government-owned unions.

Universal health care would be great in a perfect world, but we do not live in one. Utopia is an illusion perpetrated in Marxism; it does not and cannot exist by the very essence of human nature.

* Expanding government is not job creation, it is only increasing our nation tax burden. Reduce government, reduce taxes and let the private sector do what they do best – create new jobs through expansion and new start-ups.

* Abolish the IRS and the Federal income tax. It is unconstitutional – it circumvents life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and cripples the initiative of entrepreneurship. It’s absurd and vile in its very nature; aside from the fact that it is illegal.

* Either we have a national, enforced immigration law or we don’t. You can’t be a little bit pregnant. If our federal government either can’t or won’t secure our borders against the invasion we are experiencing, get out of the state’s way to protect themselves. Period. End of story.

States have every right to expect the federal government to protect them from this onslaught, they are paying for it with their tax dollars. If the federal government fails them, they retain the right to succeed from the union, guaranteed in the constitution, if their welfare is in jeopardy. Congress and the president know this but continue to ignore their cries.

Now is the time for swift, definitive action on this matter. States are being overrun by armed gangs of criminals inciting anarchy in our midst. They have taken over areas of states and now have turned them into lawless regions within our national boundaries.

What exactly is it going to take for Washington to take action (besides bringing lawsuits against those that would stop in the absence of federal help)? The closest we have seen them come to action is a push to make criminals (illegal aliens) naturalized citizens en mass.

What kind of message is that sending to the rest of the world? Sneak in without getting caught and you can be one of us without going through the formality of legal citizenship required by legal immigrants? Is that really the message we want to send the world?

* As long as there has been standing armies on earth, there have been homosexuals in the military. And always will be. I find no cause they should be granted special dispensation because of it.

Gays in the military is a non-starter in concept. The federal law (Uniform Code of Military Justice) says it is a no-go. It is illegal. Period. End of story. It’s the law.

No state, federal or supreme court justice has authority to legislate a change to that law from the bench. Nor can they override it by virtue of their personal opinion or agenda. They are jurists not legislators.

That change must be done by the Congress who is empowered by the constitution to pass the laws that govern our military. Justices only have authority to enforce existing laws.

Along the same lines, it is the business of individual states to handle issues of marriage within their borders. The Federal government has no justification to set policy and laws pertaining to such. This is another non-starter on the Federal level.

In light of the larger picture we have in front of us, I consider issues on homosexuality to be of small import nationally because they represent a very small portion of the population overall. We have much, much bigger fish to fry than deciding who sleeps with whom. These are state decisions and the Feds need to stay out of our bedrooms.

This piece could go and on through perpetuity I suppose and still not cover half of what we are facing. But I believe it’s a fair assessment of some key areas that need to be addressed yesterday if not sooner.

Again, congratulations to all conservative winners in the election, but that was yesterday. It’s already old news today and we are watching our state and national capitols with anticipation of what is soon to follow.

Do the best you can folks, but remember, do the best you can for your constituents and not for yourself. The next election is just around the corner…

On historic night, Republicans sweep House Democrats from power

Sunday’s Calm Before Tuesday’s Storm?

Obama campaigningBy abandoning his own rhetoric of bipartisanship, did President Obama divide America and set the course for a heavy Democratic defeat in Tuesday’s midterm elections? Yes he did, argues Toby Harnden.

All rhetoric aside, the simple mathematics of the economic climate do not bear out what the Democrats as touting as their achievements.

Gitmo Connection to Yemen Terror Groups

Ayatollah ObamaAccording to a declassified Pentagon report, one in five terror suspects released from the Guantanamo Bay prison has returned to fight against the United States and other nations opposed to terrorist groups. Several of them are believed to be part of the Yemen-based terrorist group.

However, the White House and its news media allies continue to downplay the report in order to avoid an expected fierce backlash against President Barack Obama’s plan to close the military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The finding reflects an upward trend on the recidivism rate, although human rights activists who advocate closing the prison have questioned the validity of such numbers.

Early last year, the Defense Department claimed that the rate of released detainees returning to terrorism was 11 percent. In April, it rose to 14 percent. This latest figure of 20 percent is not favorable for a White House already suspected of being weak on national security.
